Times Tables at Perryfields

Times Table Scheme

Children should learn their times tables at home, using the online platform Times Tables Rock Stars if they wish. They will also learn number facts and explore times table patterns in their maths lessons. Additionally, they will practise times tables during a quick maths grid activity at least once a week at school (see below for example grids). As children move from stage to stage, they will receive the following:

Bronze Buddies

As soon as the children know the 2s, 5s and 10s in random order, they will receive a certificate and would have joined the ‘Bronze Buddies’ club.

Silver Squad

When they have passed the 3s, 4s, 6s and 7s, they join the ‘Silver Squad’ and receive a certificate.

Gold Gang

Finally, when the children have passed the remaining tables up to the 12s, they join the ‘Gold Gang’ and receive a certificate and a reward (a golden badge).

Platinum Posse

Children can then work towards joining the ‘Platinum Posse’, by learning division facts for the 1-12 times tables. Children should have passed all 4 division sheets, all correct, aiming for an improvement in time each week. A platinum certificate is then awarded.

The 100 Club

After receiving the platinum award, children can work towards the ultimate reward: joining the ‘100 club’. Each week, these children will have a go at a 100 mixed facts sheet. They will record their time and mark it. The quickest time from that class will be passed to the maths subject leader. The child with the fastest time overall in the whole school for that particular week will be awarded a place in the 100 club.

Children in the 100 club will be celebrated on the Maths Celebration Board and receive reward time at the end of each term.
