Tolkien Class Update 4/10/24

Date: 4th Oct 2024 @ 7:59am

What a fantastic week it has been in Tolkien Class! We kicked off the week with an exhilarating whole year group house bench ball competition. The atmosphere was electric, with children cheering for their teammates and displaying remarkable sportsmanship throughout the matches. It was a brilliant way to foster camaraderie and healthy competition within the year group.

On Tuesday, we delved into our search engines topic in computing, where we focused on identifying reliable online sources. The children engaged in discussions about the importance of discerning fact from fiction in the digital age. This critical skill is essential, and it was heartening to see the students develop their understanding of how to navigate the vast amount of information available online. In addition to this, we explored the impact of the Anglo Saxons on our local area. The children were absolutely fascinated to learn about the rich legacy they left in Essex, particularly in Springfield. It sparked a wave of curiosity and a debate that I hope will continue as we explore further aspects of our local history.

By midweek, on Wednesday and Thursday, we completed our final diary entries as Harry Potter in English, allowing the children to immerse themselves in the beloved world of J.K. Rowling’s creation. They demonstrated fantastic creativity and captured the essence of the characters brilliantly. Simultaneously, we wrapped up our addition and subtraction unit in maths - we’ve covered so much since the beginning of the term!

Thursday also offered a hands-on opportunity in science, where we investigated the effects of friction through a practical experiment. The children enjoyed testing various surfaces and materials, learning about the principles of physics in an engaging manner.

As we head into the weekend, I’d like to remind all students about their spelling test scheduled for Monday, as well as the maths homework due on Tuesday. Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to another exciting week ahead!
