Tolkien Class Update 27/09/24

Date: 27th Sep 2024 @ 7:48am

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Tolkien Class!

Our week commenced with the exciting European Day of Languages event. The children learned about the importance of linguistic diversity and why learning languages is a valuable skill at school. To culminate the event, we held a poster competition where the entries were both imaginative and informative. Congratulations to Olivia for winning with her enchanting design!

We’ve continued our exploration of writing in English, delving deeper into diary entries from the perspective of Harry Potter. The children have made remarkable strides in incorporating emotive language, informal expressions, and complex sentence structures. It has been inspiring to see their creativity flourish as they channel their inner wizards and witches!

In maths, we are making brilliant progress with our addition and subtraction unit. The children have been engaging with different strategies and showing significant improvement in their understanding. It’s gratifying to witness their confidence grow as they tackle increasingly challenging problems.

Additionally, our history lessons have taken us back in time as we utilised a range of sources to research the beliefs of the Anglo-Saxons. The students displayed an impressive ability to sift through information and present their findings. It’s evident they are developing a deeper understanding of our historical roots.

On Thursday, we transformed our classroom into a mini-laboratory as we tested the effects of water resistance. The children built their own boats and timed how long it took them to travel through water. It was a splendid hands-on activity that combined science and engineering, resulting in much laughter and learning.

Please remember to practise your spellings for your test on Monday morning and that maths homework (on MyMaths) is due on Tuesday!

Wishing everyone a great weekend!
