Tolkien Class Update 17.1.25
Date: 17th Jan 2025 @ 3:50pm
This week in our class, we’ve had an engaging mix of activities centred around our favourite texts and subjects. Our adventures into the world of Tolkien have been particularly inspiring, fostering not only a love for literature but also sparking creativity in our budding authors.
One of the highlights this week was the editing and publication of our instruction text writing of 'How to Be a Monarch’, an imaginative piece based on the character of Prince Arthur from The Sword in the Stone. The children dived into the intricacies of leadership, conjuring both humour and wisdom as they devised their royal rules. It was heartening to see them illustrate the qualities of an effective monarch, pushing their creative boundaries while learning about historical figures.
In addition to our English work, we continued our history topic focusing on the Tudors. The children were thrilled to examine replica artefacts, engaging in lively discussions about their potential uses. We sorted through various items, predicting how they might have been employed during the Tudor period. This hands-on approach truly brought our history lessons to life, as the students actively connected with the past and provided us with some surprising outcomes of how the Tudors lived their lives.
On the science front, our exploration of the solar system is in full flow. The children displayed great enthusiasm while naming and ordering the planets, demonstrating impressive knowledge of facts relating to each celestial body. It’s rewarding to watch their curiosity blossom as they delve deeper into astrophysics.
Lastly, we cannot forget to congratulate our spelling bee finalists! These dedicated students have shown tremendous effort and skill throughout the competition, and we wish them the very best as they prepare for the final next Friday. As ever, it has been a week filled with learning, creativity, and triumphs in our classroom!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
