Tolkien Class Update 11/10/24

Date: 10th Oct 2024 @ 4:08pm

This week in Tolkien Class has been both productive and enjoyable as we made a promising start to our next English unit, focusing on the beloved tale of The Hobbit. The students engaged deeply in character and setting description, which will serve as a solid foundation for our upcoming lessons. We are now preparing to delve into persuasive writing techniques, particularly for our forthcoming persuasive letter, an essential skill that will enhance their communication abilities.

In Science, we culminated our topic on forces with an informative lesson about mechanisms. The children demonstrated great curiosity and understanding, applying their knowledge practically. Similarly, our History topic on the Anglo-Saxons reached an exciting conclusion with a lesson on the Vikings, where they explored significant aspects of this fascinating period in British history.

Preparations for our Year 5 Harvest Festival Assembly are well underway. Each child has received their lines and has been practising diligently as a year group in the hall. Please remind the children to continue learning their lines at home, as their confidence will surely shine through on the day.

On Wednesday, we were fortunate to enjoy a thought-provoking assembly centred around Black History, followed by an engaging art lesson inspired by Black History Month. This provided an excellent opportunity for reflection and creativity, contributing to a well-rounded education.

A hearty well done goes out to those pupils who have submitted their Nandos homework. While this task is optional, it has been delightful to see many children embracing the opportunity to showcase their learning.

Lastly, a reminder that next Thursday marks our 'Anglo-Saxon Britain Day'; children are encouraged to come dressed in appropriate attire for this special occasion. Additionally, please note that there will be a spelling test on Monday, and maths homework is due on Tuesday. Let’s keep up the excellent work, and I look forward to another fantastic week ahead!

Have a great weekend everyone!
