Another fantastic week in Morpurgo. In history, the children explored how daily life changed dramatically for people living in London during WWII. We discussed the evacuation of children from cities to the countryside, understanding why it was necessary for their safety. The class was fascinated by the concept of rationing—how families had to manage with limited food and resources. We also explored how some people grew "Victory Gardens" to supplement their food supplies. The children were full of curiosity, imagining what it must have been like to live during such uncertain times.
In science, we delved into Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. The children were captivated as we learned how species evolve over time, adapting to their environments. We examined examples like the finches on the Galápagos Islands, seeing how animals develop traits to survive in changing conditions.
In art, we explored the intricate work of Edward Bawden, a British artist renowned for his detailed prints. The children created their own pieces, drawing inspiration from Bawden’s distinctive style. Their attention to detail was brilliant, resulting in a collection of beautiful, unique prints.
Well done to Teddy for being awarded our Pupil of the Week.
Have a lovely weekend :)
