Lots happening this week…

Firstly, well done to our Year 6 athletes who competed in the interschool field events this week; lots of personal bests, determination and perseverance from our team!

We were pleased to welcome Essex Fire and Safety into school on Monday to present a Respect assembly and also run Cyber Safety workshops - this was very informative and well received by all our pupils -Thank you.

On Thursday, selected children from across the school attended a writing workshop led by Children’s author Alan Durant, who writes stories for children of all ages. Over the course of the day they created an excellent piece of creative writing which they are excited to share with their families. Several of our governors also joined the first workshop and were very impressed with the high expectations of the presentations as well as the children’s engagement with stimulating activities. Thank you, Miss Boyle for organising this event.

It was also lovely to welcome Miss Hockaday’s mum into school to help with our morning British Sign Language club. Mrs Hockaday is a local sign language interpreter - thank you so much for sharing your expertise with our club.

I was also blown away by an Act of Kindness from Liba (Year 6) this week; Liba has saved her pocket money over many weeks and has donated £81.34 for us to spend on new school books - thank you so much for your generosity Liba!

As always, during the final half term, our thoughts turn to what the school will look like in September; there are lots of factors to think about as our Year 6 children embark on the next stage of their educational career and we expect new Year 3 children in September. We also have to consider staff changes and it is at this point that I would like to inform you that Miss Howlett will be leaving Perryfields at the end of this term. We feel very proud that Miss Howlett has secured a Head of School post in a Wickford school but of course, we are very sorry to lose such a talented teacher and school leader. Miss Howlett has been with us for 9 years and has been an integral part of building, driving and maintaining our outstanding Perryfields Offer. Her long legacy of helping so many children achieve their potential and grow in confidence under her care is absolutely priceless. We will miss her very much, but wish her well and know that the educational landscape in Wickford will be significantly improved for her presence there - good luck Miss Howlett!
